As the first real blast of winter hit us this past weekend, I was feeling very uninspired to write this blog. Struggling to think of something, I decided to return to my academic art-historical roots and explore how noteworthy artists have dealt with winter. With the help of Google, I have enjoyed the morning and my only regret was stopping my search. Over the decades, artists have braved the elements, or at least have been moved by them, to create extraordinary art that shows some aspect of winter.
So artists, I challenge you to carry on the tradition and make some wintery images. I’d like to see what you come up with. Post a digital image of your winter-inspired art to The Art Center’s Facebook page or email it to me and I’ll do it for you (sjeppson@jamestownarts.com). If we get enough people to participate, I’d like to create an exhibition for the Arts Center’s lobby gallery that would be displayed in February 2013.
