Norwegian TV show seeks more Norwegian-Americans

Producers of the Norwegian reality TV show “The Great Norway Adventure” have put out a casting call for a fourth season.

The series transports a dozen Norwegian-Americans to their ancestral homeland to “immerse themselves in the culture and compete in a series of extreme challenges that test their skills, courage and determination,” according to a news release from O’Connor Casting Co. in Chicago.

The casting company will hold an “open call” Dec. 1 at the Twin Cities’ Mall of America for people interested in participating in the series. Auditions are open “to all adventurous Americans with Norwegian ancestry (even a little bit counts)” who are at least 18 years old and U.S. citizens, and have never been to Norway.

The series winner receives a $50,000 cash prize “and will meet Norwegian relatives they don’t even know exist,” according to the release.

Joan O’Connor, casting producer, noted that more than half of all Norwegian Americans live in the Upper Midwest and that six Minnesotans have competed in the contest’s first three seasons. They have included a pastor, a college professor, a belly-dance instructor, a security officer, a performance artist and an insurance agent. Some contestants “are now TV stars in Norway,” she said.

The open casting call is from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Dec. 1.
