BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A Bismarck native has been nominated for a national award for her work documenting women's rights in Afghanistan.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A Bismarck native has been nominated for a national award for her work documenting women's rights in Afghanistan.
The Bismarck Tribune reports that 38-old Shannon Galpin is a nominee for the 2012 National Geographic "Adventurer of the Year."
Galpin is nominated for her work with women in the war-torn country. She rides a single-speed mountain bike through the country working with various women as part of her nonprofit organization Mountain2Mountain. The organization is aimed at educating and creating opportunities for women in regions of conflict.
She is one of nine people nominated for the "Adventurer of the Year" award. People can vote daily online for who they think should win. The nominee with the most votes after Jan. 16 will win.
