WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — Officials are launching a project to turn a historic building in Williston into affordable housing for senior citizens.
The old junior high school in the oil boom city is being converted into 44 low-income apartments for seniors and space for community events. A groundbreaking was held Tuesday. Lt. Gov. Drew Wrigley spoke, saying the project would help meet housing needs in the rapidly growing city.
The school building was built in 1931 and has been shuttered for several years. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The $10.6 million redevelopment project is getting federal, state and local funding and is slated to be completed in about a year. The building is being renamed the Lutheran Social Services Legacy Living at Central Place.
