Patrol conducts traffic saturation

On Nov. 21, all available sworn North Dakota Highway Patrol personnel were on patrol to increase safety and visibility on one of the busiest travel days of the year.

This high-intensity traffic saturation resulted in five motorists being arrested for driving under the influence and five drug-related arrests, the patrol said. Troopers responded to 63 calls for service and also assisted 36 motorists along the state’s roadways. Six vehicles were cited for overload violations, resulting in $10,137 in overload fees.

Through Sunday, troopers issued a total of 1,813 citations and 672 warnings. Twenty-six motorists were arrested for DUI and 12 were arrested for drug-related charges.

To date in 2012, 150 people have died in fatal crashes in North Dakota compared to 148 fatalities in all of 2011. Fifty-three percent of the 2012 fatalities have been alcohol related.
