Comedy

Michael Whisler, an American finger-style guitar player, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Arts Center. Tickets are $7 for Arts Center members and $10 for others. To reserve tickets, call 251-2496.

The Jamestown Choralaires Christmas Dinner concert is at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, and Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Zebedee Center. Tickets are $30 and are available at Looysen I Care. For more information, call 952-4452.

The Jamestown College Christmas recital is 7 p.m. today in Voorhees Chapel. There is no admission charge.

Valley City State University Community School of the Arts recitals are at 2 and 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, in Froemke Auditorium on the campus of Valley City State University. There is no admission charge.

Jamestown Community Open Mic is at 7 p.m. every fourth Tuesday at Grace Episcopal Church, 405 Second Ave. NE. All performers are welcome.

Special Events

An interactive learning event with Zhu Shuyi, guest lecturer in Chinese at Jamestown College from Huizhou University, Huizhou, Guangdong Province, China, is at 7 p.m. Dec. 6, in Level 2 of the Nafus Center on the campus of Jamestown College. There is no admission charge.

A ceramics exhibit reception and gallery talk with Brad Bachmeier is at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Arts Center. There is no admission charge.

A planetarium double feature, “The Zodiac” and “The Solar System,” starts at 2 p.m. Saturday in room 310 of the Rhoades Science Center on the campus of Valley City State University. There is no admission charge.

Around Town

Wood carving with a local wood carving group is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays in the Arts Center’s Hansen Studio. There is no charge. Call Andy Kudrna at 320-5075 with questions.

Public skating is from 7 to 9 p.m. Sundays through Dec. 30 at Wilson Arena. Cost for children is $2, adults $3 and rentals $2. For more information on special packages, call Jamestown Parks and Recreation at 252-3982 or Wilson Arena at 252-3939.

Open swimming is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Jamestown High School Pool. There is no admission charge. Children under 12 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

National Buffalo Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and by appointment only on Sunday. Admission: $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and AAA members, $10 for a family and $1 for children ages 6 to 18.

Alfred Dickey Library hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. To access the Story Line, call 252-7464. The library is located at 105 Third St. SE.

Stutsman County Library hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The library is located at 910 Fifth St. SE.

The Arts Center, 115 Second St. SW, Jamestown, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and by appointment Sunday. There is no admission charge.

The Barnes County Historical Museum, 315 Central Ave. N, Valley City, is open year round from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Admission is a freewill donation.

The Ronald Reagan Minuteman Missile Historic Site near Cooperstown is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Thursday through Saturday, and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday. The Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center near Pingree is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays. The refuge trail system is open daily sunrise to sunset.

Art

“Sticks & Stones,” an exhibit in clay by Brad Bachmeier, may be viewed at the Arts Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday. There is no admission charge.

Frank Clemens’ art is on display at Unison Bank for the month of November. Unison features a new artist in its lobby each month.

Classes
