Optimist Club honors athletes
Jamestown High School’s Carissa Finck and Mitch Ova, along with Jamestown College’s Tiffany Sluik and Mark Hoge, have all been selected as Jamestown Optimist Club’s Athletes of the Week.
Jamestown High School’s Carissa Finck and Mitch Ova, along with Jamestown College’s Tiffany Sluik and Mark Hoge, have all been selected as Jamestown Optimist Club’s Athletes of the Week.
Finck, a senior goalie on the Blue Jay girls hockey team, helped Jamestown to a 3-0 start to the season, including shutouts over Fargo North (2-0) and Mandan (5-0). Finck posted 32 saves in a 2-1 overtime victory against Bismarck.
In three games played, Finck has collected 72 saves with just one goal allowed.
Ova, a senior on the Blue Jay wrestling team, was in a tight 6-5 match when he took control and pinned his opponent at the 5:29 mark in Jamestown’s match against Bismarck Century.
Sluik, a senior on the Jimmie women’s wrestling team, won the championship in the 59 kilo weight class at the Husky Open in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The Mason City, Iowa native won all three of her matches on her way to the title.
Hoge, a junior on the Jimmie men’s basketball team, scored 30 points in a win over UM-Morris and led the Jimmies in two very close losses to Montana Northern. For the week, the Ironton, Minn. native collected 67 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists, 4 steals and a block.
