Leonard Rude

Leonard Walter Rude, 94, Jamestown, ND died Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Eventide at Hi-Acres in Jamestown. Leonard was born May 25, 1918 in Ludlow, South Dakota, the son of Esten K. and Inga (Johnson) Rude. When he was four years old the family moved to Pingree, ND, and then to Buchanan where they farmed.

Leonard Walter Rude, 94, Jamestown, ND died Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Eventide at Hi-Acres in Jamestown.

Leonard was born May 25, 1918 in Ludlow, South Dakota, the son of Esten K. and Inga (Johnson) Rude. When he was four years old the family moved to Pingree, ND, and then to Buchanan where they farmed. He was educated in Round Tree Township. On November 20, 1943 he married Frances M. Smith in Jamestown. They farmed near Buchanan for a few years, then moved to Carrington where he and his brother, Cliff, purchased the Carrington Hide & Fur. In 1953 he started work for Porter Brothers in Jamestown, from where he retired in 1983.

Leonard was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, where he ushered for many years. He was also an honorary member of the Jamestown Eagles. He enjoyed camping, traveling and tinkering in his garage. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Frances, Jamestown; one son, David Rude, Jamestown; two daughters, Donna Fischer and Kathy Vandeberghe, both of Jamestown; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lillian Neva, Jamestown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, one in infancy; two brothers; and son-in-law, Tom Vandeberghe.

Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastors Leon Zavadil and Rich Fitzer officiating.

Visitation: 3:00 to 7:00 PM, Monday, December 3, 2012 at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown

Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Monday, December 3 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel

Burial in the spring: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, ND

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Jamestown Regional Medical Center Hospice or Trinity Lutheran Church.
