Jays blitz Braves for second road win

Road points are never easy to come by in the West Region, but the Blue Jays have piled up six quick.

Jamestown came flying out of the gates, scoring four first-period goals en route to a 7-2 win over Bottineau-Rugby Friday night.

Jake Stilwell, Nick Stockert and Alex Williams each scored two goals for the Blue Jays, who improved to 2-0 in the West and 2-1 overall.

“Road wins are tough to get, so we’re happy to come into this barn a get another win,” said senior Dakotah Spitzer, who was one of five Blue Jays with an assist. “We have a young team, but we have a lot of potential. If we can keep pushing, keep working hard we can do a lot of things with this team.”

Stilwell got the Blue Jays started, making it 1-0 JHS two minutes and 29 seconds into the game. Sophomore Nick Stockert got the next two and the Blue Jays were off and running.

“We talked all week long about going out and getting after people. That first period was our best period of the year as far as getting after it and being aggressive,” JHS coach Matt Stockert said. “I don’t want to say we won every race for the puck, but we won most of them.”

Stilwell’s second goal of the first made it 4-1 Jays. The ace senior winger also added a pair of assists.

Williams scored in the second and third and added an assist. Jakobi Lux also chipped in with a goal and two assists.

“We talk a lot about one word: go. I thought we really did a nice job of going and making things happen,” Stockert said.

Tygh Yatskis finished with 17 saves in the win. The Blue Jays peppered Braves goalie Riley Monson with 40 shots.

“We’ve been doing a really good job of getting the puck down low and getting shots on net, when we do that, good things happen like they did tonight,” Spitzer said.
