JC’s Nord takes fifth at Dragon Open

Michael Nord had a long way to go at the Dragon Open on Saturday in Moorhead, Minn.

After beating Oakes native Josten Coleman of Concordia 9-8, the 165-pound Enderlin product and Jamestown College sophomore fell to the University of Mary’s Brock Krumm 9-8.

But from there, Nord was on fire. He beat Billy Dean of Southwest Minnesota State by 19-10 major decision and pinned Jordan Bendson of Concordia in 1 minute, 6 seconds.

He secured fifth place with a 17-2 technical fall over Blake Lundgren of Northern State and a fall in 2:55 over Greg Gainey of Minnesota West.

Nord stood as the Jimmies’ only place-winner at the tournament, though Joey Murillo came away with second at 125 in the freshman division.

The Jimmies dual Waldorf College on Saturday in Forest City, Iowa.
