Ruleen McMillan, Stacy Schaffer and Robin Christ of the Barnes County North Dollars for Scholars attended the fifth annual North Dakota Dollars for Scholars Conference in Bismarck on Oct. 27.

Chapter representatives learned about endowment programs and tax credits, Dollars for Scholars computer training and fundraising. For attending the conference, the chapter will receive a $1,000 scholarship donation from Bank of North Dakota. The scholarship, sponsored by Bank of North Dakota, will provide $500 to a student applying to the local chapter and $500 designated for a student already attending a higher education institution. Students from Barnes County North High School are encouraged to apply.

North Dakota Dollars for Scholars has 84 community chapters in the state. Bank of North Dakota provides a state director and operational support for local chapters. Since the first chapter was established in Grand Forks in 1962, NDDFS has raised more than $24 million and helped nearly 20,000 students.

This year, the local chapter plans to distribute approximately $18,000 to local high school students and recent graduates attending college. Events such as penny wars, pizza sales, It’s a Wonderful Night ticket sales, and Fun Night increase the funds available for the students. Individuals and families may donate directly to the local chapter by mailing a check to Barnes County North DFS at 9931 21st St. SE, Wimbledon, ND 58492.

Members of the Barnes County North Board are Mary Undem, McMillan, Geri Haugen, Schaffer and Christ.
