Katie Blais is the first Jamestown College athlete to qualify for nationals.

The freshman from St. Michael, Minn., won the Midland University Half Marathon near Fremont, Neb., on Saturday.

Blais placed first out of 14 runners with a time of 1 hour, 31 minutes and 6 seconds in the 13.1-mile race. She finished 15 seconds ahead of the runner-up finisher.

“This was a nice effort by Katie,” JC women’s track and cross country coach Jim Clark said. “She was getting stronger at the end of her cross country season, running a full minute personal best at the conference meet in California.

“Now Katie can begin a marathon training plan.”

Blais’ high school cross country coach was Jamestown College Hall of Fame inductee Gregg Greeno.

The NAIA marathon will be run at the national meet May 23-25 in Marion, Ind.
