Class B roundup: Rockets win season opener

New Rockford-Sheyenne scored 19 first-quarter points and hung on the rest of the way for a season-opening 50-46 win over visiting Pingree-Buchanan-Kensal on Tuesday.

New Rockford-Sheyenne scored 19 first-quarter points and hung on the rest of the way for a season-opening 50-46 win over visiting Pingree-Buchanan-Kensal on Tuesday.

Javan Arroyo sank four 3-pointers en route to 16 points for the Rockets, who will likely be without Ethan Haley for the entire season due to shoulder surgery following their run to a 9-man football title. Haley was the team’s star quarterback. Chance LaBrie added 15 points in Tuesday’s triumph.

Nicholas Blaskowski came out hot for the Rebels, pouring in 24 points to lead everybody. J.R. Perleberg followed with 14 points.

Kris Watne tossed in 19 points and Carter Anderson contributed 15, helping Griggs County Central win at home over Midkota.

The Cougars scored 20 points in each of the first two periods to lead 40-14 at the break. Auston Monson led the Mustangs with 13 points.

Edgeley-Kulm opened its season with a nice road win, edging ninth-ranked South Border 57-51.

Four Rebels scored in double figures topped by Noah Greer’s 12 points. Connor Entzi added 12.

South Border was without star senior Michael Jacobson. Sophomore Hunter Pinke led the way with 16 points.
