In the last few years, it’s not December around here without colder weather, Christmas and an injured Brock Jensen leading North Dakota State in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision playoffs. He’s like the mailman of the FCS.
Neither rain, sleet or snow …
“Been a little banged up in the playoffs,” Jensen said. “But I think everybody has been banged up to some extent.”
The latest problem is an injured wrist hurt during the 28-3 second-round win over South Dakota State last Saturday. By Sunday, he was having an MRI, which usually is a sign that significant damage could be possible.
By Monday, he got the all-clear. Just tape it up and play, and that’s what he’s scheduled to do Saturday when the Bison host Wofford College (S.C.) in the FCS quarterfinals.
“Just a couple of tendons, but could have been a lot worse than that,” Jensen said. “It hasn’t really affected me in practice at all. I just put a little extra tape on it, and once the tape loosens up, it doesn’t affect my play.”
Two years ago, Jensen dealt with a broken collar bone to help his team unexpectedly reach the quarterfinals. Last year was a turf toe problem that lingered during a good chunk of the season.
The wrist problem is in his left hand, so the impact is significantly less to the right-handed throwing Jensen. He says an accumulation of a few hits against SDSU caused the problem.
No matter. The FCS mail needs to be delivered.
“There’s nothing like playing football, and it’s not a game for the weary,” Jensen said.
