Thanksgiving morning saw nearly 100 people participate in the first-ever Jamestown Turkey Trot, according to Geri Mittleider, event organizer. The 97 runners and walkers ranged in age from 14 to older than 70.
The event raised about $900 worth of nonperishable food donations and $1,300 in cash for the Community Action Region VI Food Pantry.
“We were thrilled, a bit stunned on race day,” Mittleider said. “This really shows me it is something the Jamestown community wants and will support.”
The event was sponsored by Bank Forward, Coburn’s UTC, Walmart and Ingstad Family Media.
Mittleider said the group plans to make the Jamestown Turkey Trot an annual event on Thanksgiving Day.
