Special events

Bluegrass jam session, 1 to 5 p.m., Barnes County Museum. Event is free; beginning players welcome. A free “Christmas Song” workshop starts at 4 p.m. The jam session is sponsored by the Bluegrass Association of North Dakota and the Barnes County Museum.

“All About Stars” and “The Norse Sky,” a Valley City State University Planetarium double feature, 2 p.m., in room 310 of the Rhoades Science Center on the campus of Valley City State University. There is no admission charge.

Sunday, Dec. 9

Special events

Bismarck Mandan Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet Concert performs holiday-themed concert, 4 to 5 p.m., St. James Basilica. Tickets: available at the door for $10 adults, $5 students.

The Jamestown College Wind Ensemble presents a Christmas concert, 2 p.m., in DeNault Auditorium in the Reiland Fine Arts Center. The concert is free.
