The Strasburg-Zeeland boys basketball team kicked off its new season with back-to-back wins at the Dakota Shootout in Linton over the weekend.
After taking down Flasher 62-42 on Friday, the Clippers answered the call again on Saturday with a 59-35 victory over Wilton-Wing. Brody Nieuwsma had a huge game on Saturday, drilling five 3-pointers and scoring a game-high 29 points to help the Clippers improve to 2-0.
Strasburg-Zeeland led 29-17 at the half, but really broke the game open in the third by outscoring Wilton-Wing 14-3 in the frame. Nieuwsma dropped in 10 of his 29 points in the third.
The host team Linton-HMB Lions also got their season on track during the Dakota Shootout, picking up the team’s first two victories of the season to improve to 2-2 overall.
The Lions defeated Wilton-Wing 81-38 on Friday, and on Saturday they took down Beach by the final of 67-43.
Center Mason Ryckman scored a game-high 17 points off the bench to help the Lions defeat the Buccaneers. Tyler Humann also connected on three 3-points and scored 16 points for the Lions, while Ryan Schneider added 14 more points.

The Raiders’ James Richman dropped in 16 of his game-high 28 points in the third period, which helped Maple Valley lead the Tornadoes 43-21 at the half, and the Raiders cruised from there in Oakes.
Jordan Haselau also had a nice night for the Raiders, scoring 17 points. The Tornadoes were led in scoring with 11 points from Ethan Zetocha.
