EliMiNate project topic at Kiwanis

Katie Ryan-Anderson, Kiwanis member, spoke at last weeks’ Kiwanis Club meeting on the EliMiNate project that the club is raising money for.

Ryan-Anderson said the club has already raised $9,350 through two events: An Evening with Alexis Barnick and an auction at Camp Rokiwan. The club recently received a $350 gift from an anonymous donor. She played a game asking Kiwanis members about EliMiNate. The name stands for maternal and neonatal tetanus, which she said is easily preventable. The global campaign for children is to change the world by eliminating this disease. One baby dies every nine minutes from tetanus. So far, it has been eliminated in more than 20 countries since 2000. The goal of the Jamestown Kiwanis Club is to raise between $20,000 and $30,000 for the effort.

Sandy Franke led the meeting with 24 members attending. Don and Sharon Caine led the group singing and Bob Welsh collected “Happy Dollars” for the Salvation Army. Sharon Caine will chair a Christmas Celebration at the Dec. 17 noon luncheon meeting at the Lantern Room. The public is welcome at all Kiwanis meetings.
