The Minnesota Twins have added another starting pitcher.
According to several media reports, Kevin Correia, formerly of the Pittsburgh Pirates, has signed a two-year contract worth $10 million with the Twins.
Correia, a 32-year-old right-hander, was 12-11 with a 4.21 ERA last season for the Pirates. For his career, he’s posted a record of 60-65 with a 4.54 ERA. He pitches to contact, striking out only 4.7 batters per nine innings last season. He was an All-Star with Pittsburgh in 2011.
The Twins have been interested in Correia in recent seasons, due mainly to his relatively low cost. He was with the Padres from 2009-2010.
Correia has made at least 26 starts in each of the past four seasons. He started 28 games last season for the Pirates but also made four relief appearances.
He joins left-hander Scott Diamond and recent acquisition Vance Worley in the Twins rotation. Worley was acquired last week from the Philadelphia Phillies in the Ben Revere trade.
