The Jamestown High School girls basketball team got a big win over Fargo Davies last Saturday and the state took notice.

The Blue Jays are tied for fifth in the first Class A state media poll, voted on by the North Dakota Associated Press Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.

They received five points, the same as Mandan. Davies was the top vote-getter not in the poll, with three tallies.

Defending state runner-up West Fargo was first in the poll with seven first-place votes. Last year’s third-place finisher Bismarck High was second, receiving two first-place votes. Both teams return most of their roster.

Defending state champion Bismarck Century was third, getting a first-place vote, while Shanley was fourth.

In the boys poll, last season’s state runner-up Fargo Shanley received nine of 10 first-place votes for the top spot. Fargo Davies was second, just ahead of Minot. Grand Forks Red River was fourth, while Bismarck — which was the only other team to receive a first-place vote — was fifth.

St. Mary’s and West Fargo also received votes.
