Representatives of Stutsman Rural Water District and the city of Jamestown will meet today for another round of negotiations. The joint meeting is slated for 9:30 a.m. at Rural Water’s headquarters.
At issue is which utility will provide water service to the area near Jamestown Regional Medical Center including the Titan Machinery building currently under construction.
The announcement came after the Jamestown City Council met in executive session Thursday morning to prepare a response to the proposal Rural Water formulated in an executive session during its regular meeting Tuesday.
Discussions during a joint meeting Monday broke down with the two parties far apart on how much royalty the city would pay to provide water service in areas claimed by Rural Water. Rural Water sought a royalty of $1.50 per 1,000 gallons while the city offered 2 percent of the cost of the water or about 6 cents per 1,000 gallons.
The meeting is the second face-to-face meeting between the two parties. It comes on same day in which bids for a project to extend city water and sewer lines to the Titan project will expire if not awarded. If a bid is not accepted today, the project would need to be rebid in the future once an agreement is reached.
