Jays win comfortably

A typical outing from their all-stater and a couple personal-bests allowed the Blue Jays to blow away the field at the Christmas Invitational on Friday.

Alex Lind hit 37.350 for her all-around total, while Jenna Stilwell and Jayden Diemert posted PRs as Jamestown’s 138.650 was 10 points better than Fargo Davies, Fargo and Wahpeton.

“It was very good. For us to be up around that number (138) we have to have everybody kind of chipping in,” coach Dave Tews.

Lind won everything but the beam as she competed in her final meet of 2012 with a family commitment looming.

“She was solid all across the board. She did what she normally does.”

Only a 9.275 from Kiara Bock on beam kept Lind from a sweep.

Freshman Erin Hillerud’s 34 flat was the second-best all-around score for JHS. Stilwell’s 33.125 and Diemert hitting 32.850 were their top marks to date.

“We’ve had a lot of kids in that 32-area struggling to climb up, but they started to get there today,” Tews said.

The Blue Jays were 1-2-3 in the vault and five of the top six scores on bars.

“It was a good day. There’s still some areas where we can still hopefully make up a little ground, but overall it was a nice performance by the girls,” Tews said.

The Blue Jays host Valley City and Aberdeen Tuesday, then go to Fargo Thursday where Moorhead, Bemidji and the two Fargo teams will form a five-team meet.
