Class B roundup: Cards, Pirates win at Stutsman

Ellendale (2-1) used a nice team effort offensively to scoot past Midkota (0-5) by the final of 59-44 in consolation play of the Stutsman County Boys Basketball Tournament at the Jamestown Civic Center on Friday. The Cardinals’ James Johnston (16 points), Chase Durheim (13), Adam White (12) and Shawn Hofer (10) all hit double figures in scoring and helped Ellendale convert 24 of 58 field goals for 41 percent in the ball game.

Ellendale (2-1) used a nice team effort offensively to scoot past Midkota (0-5) by the final of 59-44 in consolation play of the Stutsman County Boys Basketball Tournament at the Jamestown Civic Center on Friday.

The Cardinals’ James Johnston (16 points), Chase Durheim (13), Adam White (12) and Shawn Hofer (10) all hit double figures in scoring and helped Ellendale convert 24 of 58 field goals for 41 percent in the ball game.

Ellendale outrebounded the Mustangs 46-28, led by Zach Dathe with 9 rebounds and White with 8. Midkota struggled to knock down shots, converting just 16 of 50 attempts for 32 percent.

The Mustangs were led by Austin Monson with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Christian Leininger also added 10 points for Midkota.

Ellendale will face Kidder County in today’s consolation championship game at 3:30 p.m. Midkota will get today’s final round started by facing Central Prairie in the seventh-place contest at 2 p.m.

Kidder Co. 56, Central Prairie 54

One team was bound to walk off the court with its first victory of the season in the second consolation game.

Kidder County (1-3) used an 8-2 run to break up a 48-48 tie with 4 minutes left in the fourth period against the Central Prairie Firebirds (0-4), and the Pirates would hang on from there to grab the two-point victory for win No. 1 on the season.

Central Prairie’s Alex Eissinger had the hot hand early, drilling three first-period 3-pointers to help the Firebirds to a 13-11 advantage after one. Eissinger hit four treys in all and led all scoring with 18 points.

Kidder County’s Walker Brandt hit a baseline jumper with 6 seconds left in the half to give the Pirates a 28-26 halftime lead. Ryan Sand and Zach Six paced the Pirates by scoring 11 points each. Sand also pulled down 12 rebounds in the game.

Girls NR-Sheyenne 56, Rolette-Wolford 50

New Rockford-Sheyenne used a 16-point effort from Ashley Ystaas and received 14 from Rachel Hermanson in a 56-50 overtime win over Rolette-Wolford.

Lexi Weber added 10 for the Rockets, who outscored 11-5 in the extra period.

Rolette-Wolford’s Kenady Martinson had a team-high 13 points.

Jennifer Wikenheiser led a balanced Strasburg-Zeeland attack with 10 points in a 50-41 win over Pingree-Buchanan-Kensal.

The Rebels led 13-6 after the first quarter, but were outscored 44-28 the rest of the way. Morgan Thomas topped the Rebels with 13 points. Amanda Beckley added 12.
