Blue Jays win big: JHS boosts record to 7-1 with DL win

The Jamestown High School girls hockey team spread the scoring around on Tuesday night.
The Blue Jays scored three goals in the first period with seven of the 12 girls on the roster each recording at least one point, eventually rolling past Devils Lake 6-1 in conference action at Wilson Arena.
“We have a few beginners we were trying to get a goal,” said senior Steph Kamlitz. “We were trying to get everyone a goal.”
The Blue Jays directed 14 shots Emma Danielsson’s way in the first. She finished with 26 saves in the loss.
“We got to play everyone,” JHS coach Brad Schaack said. “Build a lead or cushion, and get them a goal.”
Junior Brenna Pritchert got the party started 4 minutes, 16 seconds into the first, slipping a shot from the top of the left circle through traffic and underneath Daniellson for the game’s first goal, with assists going to eighth-grader Elly Millender and seventh-grader Sydney Soulis.
Senior Larissa Wiest scored what appeared to be an uneventful goal nearly five minutes later on a pass from senior Amber Schaack. The score, also assisted on by eighth-grader Haley Schnaidt, came on a scramble by the net, and not even the fans were aware it was a goal until both teams started lining up at center ice. Eighth-grader Haley Hillstrom took Daniellson top shelf from the left circle for the third score 11:24 into the first.
Kamlitz was shut out in the first, but she made up for it in the second with two goals on assists from sophomore Torri Kamlitz, Pritchert and Millender. Schaack also scored in the second.
Steph Kamlitz said she feeds off the crowd.
“All the people that come to watch us,” she said. “When the crowd cheers, it gets us going.”
Of the 10 skaters the Blue Jays put on the ice, nine logged at least a point.
Jamestown goalie Carissa Finck started in net and logged four saves before making way for sophomore Ally Dion, who played the final two periods and had 11 saves. She did allow a goal from Devils Lake sophomore Jasmine Swineland in the third.
Since the Blue Jays are light on depth, Finck found herself playing forward in the third, which didn’t go as well as the Jays were outscored 1-0.
“I’m not happy with the third period, but we’ll take the three points,” Brad Schaack said. “We’ve gotta pick it up next weekend.”
The Blue Jays (6-1 statewide, 7-1 overall) upped their point total to 16 before the Christmas break. They travel to a tournament in Crookston, Minn., on Dec. 27-28.
