Vikings ranked 24th in final NAIA poll

Valley City State finished inside the final NAIA top 25 football poll. The Vikings, who finished with a record of 7-3, were ranked No. 24, getting 36 points in voting, two more than 25th-ranked Kentucky Christian (26).

The Vikings, who finished with a record of 7-3, were ranked No. 24, getting 36 points in voting, two more than 25th-ranked Kentucky Christian (26).

Jamestown College (4-6) was responsible for one of the Vikings’ three losses, winning 13-10 at Shelly Ellig Field on Oct. 20. The Vikings beat the Jimmies by the identical field at Rollie Greeno Field on Sept. 22.

It’s the second straight season the Vikings were ranked in the final poll. Last season VCSU ended at No. 16 following a 9-2 season.

Carroll College (Mont.) was the only other school from the Dakotas or Montana in the top 25 at No. 21.

National champion Marian, Ind., was No. 1 followed by Morningside (Iowa). Missouri Valley was third, 2011 national champion St. Xavier (Ill.) fourth and Southern Oregon rounded out the top five.
