Based on Tuesday’s results, the Jamestown gymnastics team looks to be in decent shape for the future.
With star senior Alex Lind on a family vacation, the remaining Blue Jays posted a solid 137.050 to handily defeat Valley City and Aberdeen Central here Tuesday night.
“This is next year’s team. Let’s see how they compete and they did well,” coach Dave Tews said. “I liked that the scoring was spread out a little more. When it’s spread out like that if something goes bad, or one of your kids has a mental meltdown, it doesn’t take the whole thing down.”
Erin Hillerud’s all around of 34.3 was the only score over 34 in the meet, but the Blue Jays had two close to that number and a handful more approaching 33.
“Overall, it was a good all-around effort,” Tews said.
Hillerud tied with teammate Kaiann Arellano to win the floor at 8.8.
“Erin was consistent as usual,” Tews said.
Sophomore Jenna Stilwell was the lone double-winner, taking the beam (9.1) and vault (9.0). Only a fall on floor kept her from a score well into the 34s.
“(Jenna’s) 9.1 on beam was wonderful,” Tews said.
Arellano and Jayden Diemert also got high marks for their totals of 33.750 and 33.300, respectively, both of which were career-highs.
The Blue Jays wrap up the pre-holiday schedule on Thursday at a meet in Fargo.
