Jamestown qualified four more boys swimmers for the state meet, while also topping Mandan 106-77 during a double-dual at the JHS pool on Tuesday night.

Michele Simonetti, a foreign exchange student from Italy, along with Braydon Love, Hunter Boehm and Andy Oslund all qualified for state for Jamestown, bringing the team’s number of athletes qualified for state on the season up to nine.

“This was our first home meet of the season and we kicked it off really well,” JHS coach Ben Smith said. “The guys wanted to improve all their relay times, get a few others qualified for state and get at least one win out of the meet. They met those goals, which was a great accomplishment for them.”

Also competing at the double-dual were the Minot Magicians, who upended Jamestown 126-59. The Jays, however, did improve their dual record on the season to 2-1 with the victory over Mandan.

Simonetti qualified for state in the 50-meter freestyle, recording a time of 25.76. Love qualified in the 100 butterfly (1:07.19), Boehm qualified in the 100 freestyle (56.74) and Oslund qualified in the 100 backstroke (1:04.49). Love, Boehm and Oslund all finished fourth in those respective events during the meet.

“One of our goals is to get someone qualified in all the swimming events, and they’re trying to get that done early in the season,” Smith said.

Others already qualified for state for the Blue Jays are Colt Rasmussen, and divers Ian Eastham, Riley Thom, Cody Lutman and Dylan Koenig.

Rasmussen had a solid meet for Jamestown, winning both the 200 freestyle (1:57.64) and the 500 freestyle (5:33), a pair of events the swimmer was already qualified for state in. Oslund also won the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.53.

Thom was Jamestown’s top diver on the night, finishing fourth overall with a score of 167.50.

Jamestown got a pair of second-place finishes from its 200 freestyle relay team (Boehm, Oslund, Love and Rasmussen) and its 400 freestyle relay team (Rasmussen, Grant Curtis, Oslund and Love). The 200 freestyle relay team touched in 1:35.85, while the 400 team touched in 3:39.19.

The Blue Jays now have the rest of the year off. They’ll continue their season on Jan. 5 at the Maroon and Gold Invite at the University of Minnesota.
