Statues watch over your garden during winter

Often during the winter months, I view the garden from the inside looking out through a window. The garden can be quite appealing covered in a light blanket of snow. There is usually not a great deal of activity, but the wildlife still seems to enjoy it as much during the winter as it does in the summer season. When it is cold and windy, I much prefer to stay indoors and dream of warmer and greener months.

The other evening, while I was out in the garden, I noticed an ideal sense of serenity around me. It was a mild evening with little sound, no wind and some light flurries falling from the sky. The statues in the yard seemed to watch over the sleeping plants as if to make sure nothing happened to them before spring arrived. They created a presence all their own in the quietness of the night.

I came to realize that even during the months that we do not sit in the garden smelling the scents in the warmth of summer, there are still many elements that can be enjoyed in the cold. I may not spend nearly as much time out in the snow, but on those evenings when there is no wind, it is nice to just stand for a few moments and enjoy the scenery that the winter snowscape has to offer. Winter presents us with a very different image of what can be enjoyable in the garden.

If you are an avid photographer or an amateur such as myself, you can shoot some amazing photos. Any colors in the scene, such as red berries or tree branches, seem to really stand out amid the stark whiteness of the fallen snow. The grays and browns of the trees have a more detailed and rugged appearance and the tan grasses that slightly peek through the drifts of snow retain some of their gracefulness that they presented during their growing months.

Some statuary in the gardens during the summer season tends to hide within the plant materials. Some stand out when presented on pillars or stand alone on their own in the openness of the yard. Others seem to peek through different elements in the landscape as if to watch your every move throughout the garden. They all hold a nice appeal to bring the entire picture together.

It is during the winter months that these hard elements seem to stand out the most. It is the statuary that does not change with the seasons, as these are stationary features. They also add a touch of life to the barren grounds that are left behind when all plant materials have died for the year. They are quiet, yet watchful and they tend to soothe the senses in a way that is indescribable.

Winter is the time to take notice of all the stationary items in your garden and see what effect they present with the elements around them. To make your garden more enticing during the months of winter, observe the colors and various placements for items now and keep a watchful eye for tasteful items you can place in your garden down the road.

Many of the statues in my gardens are of angels and cherubs. During the Christmas season, there is a very strong sense of solitude and peace in the yard that seems to draw me out more often than usual. It is nice to feel like there are not only angels watching over the dormant gardens, but also watching over the visitors that stroll through from time to time on a quiet winter evening.

Your garden is not just a place for growing plants, but also a place to display artistic objects, enjoy enticing sounds, smell the clean air, observe the wildlife, and as a gathering place for people. Use your spaces to its fullest and enjoy every possibility that lies in your landscape’s potential. All seasons can be enjoyed in the garden throughout the year. Enjoy a different experience at all times and you will have achieved the perfect design.

During this Christmas season, take some time out and go through a garden during the winter months. Take a camera along and see all the many wonderful scenic shots that will be at your disposal to capture for a lifetime. It is also the perfect place to go to relieve a little tension and stress from the holidays and allow you to appreciate the season for what it represents. If you do not see angel statuary around, you can be sure that there are some always watching over you whether you realize it or not.

Have a very Merry Christmas everyone, and travel safely during this snowy season. Please enjoy all there is about this season as it is truly a time for celebration.
