MANDAN, N.D. (AP) — U.S. Sen.-elect Heidi Heitkamp has been putting together her legislative staff ahead of taking office in January.

Heitkamp has named Tracee Sutton as her legislative director, responsible for managing all policy initiatives.

Sutton has more than 16 years of legislative experience, serving on the staff of members of the North Dakota congressional delegation in both the House of Representatives and Senate.

Heitkamp has also tapped Shirley Meyer to serve as her western area director. Meyer has been a farmer and rancher, a small business owner and a long-time North Dakota state representative.

Heitkamp says Meyer will be a strong resource in the most rapidly expanding part of the state.
