Cold weather was not deterring the last minute shoppers in Jamestown Monday morning. Even with temperatures below the zero mark stores were busy with shoppers picking up Christmas items.
“Lots of shoppers already this morning,” said Gary Docktor, co-owner of Gun and Reel Sports at about 11 a.m. “We thought the cold weather would keep people in but we’ve seen a lot of shoppers already.”
Docktor said many were buying gift cards as last second gifts.
The Buffalo Mall was also seeing a busy morning.
“We didn’t know what to expect,” said Joni Dalke, store manager at Kmart. “With Christmas on Tuesday, there are people who are making a four-day weekend and are already gone.”
Dalke said the traffic through the store was increasing as the day went on.
The Optimist Club gift wrapping station in the Buffalo Mall was preparing for its busiest day of the holiday season.
“We’re anticipating a busy time today,” said Bob Piatz, one of the volunteers ready to wrap gifts. “It’s usually our biggest time because we have a tendency to get all the last minute shoppers who don’t have time to wrap things themselves.”
