The Jimmies are sure to climb when the next NAIA top 25 is released early next month.
Jamestown College, ranked 11th and coming off an overtime win over No. 6 Briar Cliff of Iowa last week, rank highly in a number of statistical categories.
The 12-1 Jimmies are in the top 10 in rebounding, thanks in large part to senior Amber Ramlo, who is third overall at 7.7 per game.
The Jimmies are outrebounding their opponents by a margin of nearly 10 per game. Not coincidentally they’re outscoring their
opponents by over 17 per night. They’re allowing 57 points and scoring nearly 75 per game.
Much like in recent seasons they’re getting scoring from nearly everyone on the roster. All five starters average 8.5 points per game or more with Bridget Schuneman leading at about 12. Nine players average 4.5 per game or better.
The Jimmies play a pair of 8:30 p.m. contests in Las Vegas this weekend. They play Montana-Western Friday and Montana Tech Saturday.
The Jimmie men, meanwhile, play back-to-back games against Arizona Christian in Phoenix Sunday and Monday.
If Mark Hoge plays the next two months like he’s played the last two months he certainly should be an All-American.
The junior from Ironton, Minn., is averaging 20.3 points per game. Only 14 players in all of NAIA Division II are scoring 20 per game or better and Hoge is one of them.
Another is Valley City State standout Sekani Milligen, who is going for 20.5 per game.
The Vikings and Jimmies could meet for the first time Jan. 20 in the DAC Midseason Tournament championship game at the Civic Center if both win Jan. 19 against Dakota State and Mayville State, respectively. Otherwise, they won’t play until Jan. 30 in Valley and Feb. 6 here.
Taylor Newton ranks in the top 35 in 3-point shooting at 45 percent, making tremendous improvement from his freshman to sophomore season.
Davon Thomas is second in scoring (14.7) and has stepped up big rebounding for the undersized Jimmies at seven per contest.
