Class B roundup: Rebels, Oakes win DHT

Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier didn’t allow Oakes more than nine points in any quarter en route to a low-scoring 43-34 win in the championship game of the Dakota Holiday Tournament Saturday night in Ellendale.

Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier didn’t allow Oakes more than nine points in any quarter en route to a low-scoring 43-34 win in the championship game of the Dakota Holiday Tournament Saturday night in Ellendale.

Conner Entzi led a balanced Rebel attack with 12 points. Tournament MVP Logan Hanson contributed 10.

Bryce Meehl filled it up for 20 points in defeat for the Tornadoes.

Brian Sumption went for 19 points as Leola-Frederick topped Ellendale 52-31 in the third-place game.

Adam White led the Cardinals with 16 points as they went 0-2.

Nicole Warren poured in 22 points as Oakes nipped the host Cardinals 41-40 in the girls championship game.

Warren was also named tourney MVP.

The Cardinals trailed 34-27 entering the fourth quarter before outscoring the Tornadoes 13-7 in the final eight minutes to make it interesting.

Shayna Mertz had 14 points to pace Ellendale. Madilyn Bommersbach added 13 points and sank four 3-pointers.

Kelsey Feist and Kallie Anderson had matching 12-point games and Olivia Anderson added 10 for Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier in its 44-37 win over Leola-Frederick.

The Rebels got to the stripe 28 times in the game, but made just half of them. Anderson sank a pair of 3-pointers.

Second-ranked North Star led Harvey-Wells County 18-6 after one quarter and never looked back.

Daniel Grande poured in 24 points to lead North Star. Jacob Hagler added 14 and Alex Weston 10.

Andrew Alveshere hit a pair of 3s en route to 12 points for the Hornets.

The Bison, led by a big 25-point performance from Brad Clemens, led 42-38 after three frames. Derek Fletcher kicked in 14 points for the Bison.

Three Cadets had 13 points or more with Jake Schlecht’s 13 leading the charge. Adam Weber and Devin Arp each chipped in with 12.

The Bison trailed just 24-17 at halftime, but were outscored 23-5 in the third quarter. Sam Wieland and Hanna Willson each had eight points to share game-high honors for Barnes County North.
