WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A West Fargo man accused of abusing dogs last summer has been sentenced to three days in jail and 15 hours of community service.
Authorities say 25-year-old Jason Weisgerber kept two dogs in a hot, feces-littered garage for more than two weeks without necessary food and water. He pleaded guilty through his attorney to a misdemeanor animal abuse charge.
Weisgerber did not appear personally in court Wednesday. The Forum reports Judge John Irby said he wished Weisgerber had appeared to explain his actions, which the judge called “callous.” He also ordered Weisberger to pay a $300 fee and restitution to be determined.
Prosecutor Tanya Martinez says one of the dogs is with a new owner but the other had to be euthanized.
