GRAND FORKS (AP) — North Dakota spotted Holy Cross a two-goal lead and then rallied to beat the Crusaders 3-2 Saturday for a sweep of their men’s college hockey series.
Seventh-ranked North Dakota (12-5-3) scored twice on the power play in the third period to complete the comeback and get the victory over the Crusaders (10-6-2). UND won 5-2 on Friday.
“We dug ourselves a hole and had to dig ourselves out,” North Dakota coach Dave Hakstol said. “It certainly wasn’t easy. We worked our way into the game after about 10 minutes.”
But UND trailed 1-0 after Brandon Nunn’s goal at 3:23 and fell behind 2-0 after Rob Linsmayer’s goal at 13:05.
Connor Gaarder started UND’s comeback with a goal with one minute left in the first period.
North Dakota outshot the Crusaders 37-19. It had a 27-12 advantage in the last two periods. Holy Cross goalie Matt Ginn made 34 saves, including 25 in the final two periods.
Michael Parks scored at 4:15 of the third to tie the game at 2-2. It was his second goal in two games since his return from an injury.
Danny Kristo scored his 10th goal of the season at 14:37 to break the tie. Corban Knight assisted on goals by Parks and Kristo to extend his point-scoring streak to 15 games.
Clarke Saunders made 17 saves for UND and Matt Ginn had 34 stops for Holy Cross.
UND is unbeaten in its last seven games and is 4-0-0 all-time against the Crusaders.
