Sluik honored as JC does well at Waldorf
Jamestown College’s Tiffany Sluik captured the Association of Independent Institutions’ female athlete of the week award with three pins and a championship at the Waldorf Open on Saturday and a total week record of 5-0.

All five of the Mason City, Iowa native’s wins were pins.
The Jamestown College women’s wrestling team had a strong showing overall. Team scores weren’t kept, but the Jimmies did finish third in the 11-team meet with 11 pins.
In addition to Sluik, Christina Zamora went 3-1 at 155 and Lilia Gudzyuk finished 2-1 at 170 to earn runner-up honors. Shai Mason was third at 143 with a 3-1 record, as was Mary Westman at 155 behind Zamora.
Justina Palabrica took fifth at 109 and Kayla Volin rounded out the placers with sixth place at 170.
“The women wrestled well coming off the Christmas break. We had some athletes travel for the first time this year and others back from injuries who did well,” JC coach Tony DeAnda said in a press release.
