Tristin Roaldson, a fifth-grader from Barnes County North (West Campus), has been selected as a North Dakota delegate with the People-to-People Ambassador Program. He will travel to Australia with fellow nominees in early July.
This program, which was begun by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956, strives to bridge world cultures through education and exchanges. During his two-week visit, Tristin will snorkel with marine biologists, visit the Parliament House in Sydney, travel to a wildlife sanctuary, interact with Australian students and stay with a host family to further understand their culture.
Fundraisers were organized in December to support Tristin. Teachers held a jeans week raffle, students paid to wear hats, high school snacks were sold, and the boys basketball players donned jeans for home games. More than $570 was raised to support Tristin’s fundraising efforts.
Tristin is the son of Casey and MeLisa Roaldson and resides in Wimbledon, N.D.
