A long road trip to Rapid City got the 15th-ranked Jimmie women back on track.

Jamestown College sank 11 three-pointers en route to a 77-68 win over NCAA Division II South Dakota Mines on Friday night.

Coming off a disappointing 2-2 performance on their holiday trip, coach Greg Ulland said it was important for his team to get back on track.

“We needed to get that sour taste out of our mouths and wanted to make sure that people understand that the way we played during that trip is not the team we are,” Ulland said. “We did a lot of good things, but the main takeaway is that we just played a lot better, and really, on both ends of the floor.”

Carly Jensen led a balanced JC effort with 17 points. She also splashed in five of the 11 3-pointers, including a couple of key ones late.

“She hit big shot after big shot and she did it when it felt like we needed it,” Ulland said.

Junior point guard Hannah Steele also had a solid outing with 14 points and four assists.

“She controlled the whole game,” Ulland said. “She played the way we need her to and the way she has so many times during her career.”

Morgan Mathison was also in double figures with 13 points.

Hillary Hawkins and Alexis Long each had 19 points.

It wasn’t a flawless performance. The Jimmies missed 12 free throws and turned it over 17 times, but Ulland said it was a performance more befitting a 15-3 team.

“We hit shots when we needed to and we got stops,” Ulland said. “This is not an easy place to play. Mines is a young team, but they have talent. This is a nice win for us and hopefully gets us pointed back in the right direction.”
