First Community Credit Union’s Kathy Mushet has recently earned her Bank Secrecy Act Compliance Specialist certification. The BSACS designation is obtained through CUNA for credit union professionals in this area in which they have approximately 1,000 current BSACS designations.
Mushet has been performing Bank Secrecy Act functions since June of 2011 and has been with FCCU for 10 years. Prior to working as a member service coordinator and BSA Officer, Mushet also worked as a member service representative.
As the member service coordinator, Mushet works with opening accounts, closing accounts and everything in between. She provides support to FCCU’s 14 branch locations. Understanding all aspects of how an account works along with the types of transactions that occur within the financial industry are also critical pieces in the successful oversight of the Bank Secrecy program.
“Kathy has many years of member service experience. In addition to those responsibilities, she has shown great initiative in obtaining her BSA certification, which is an important regulatory piece within all financial institutions. We are proud of Kathy’s accomplishments and dedication to FCCU,” said Stephanie Finck, operations manager of FCCU.
BSA is an extensive program that deals with monetary instruments, funds transfers. There are annual training requirements, annual board reporting and annual audits and risk assessment evaluations.
