The Bruins scored three second-period goals and then held on in the third to defeat the Blue Jays 5-3. South-Davies, and its full complement of 18 skaters, beat Jamestown for the second time.
“They were buzzing tonight,” JHS coach Brad Schaack said. “Take that 5-6-7 minute stretch out of the second period and we’re right there with them, but you can’t. They played 51 (minutes) better than we did.”
The Bruins were playing for keeps, double-shifting their first two lines, including a top line that Schaack called “Pretty salty. Speed kills and they’re quicker than snot. They’re on the puck in a heartbeat and they play well together.”
Amber Schaack had a hat trick to account for the JHS scoring, giving her an even 20 on the season. The first she flipped in from the red line and hopped over Emily Grothman’s glove.
Ally Dion assisted on the final goal of the game, cutting the Bruins’ lead to 5-3 with seven-plus minutes to play.
“We got stronger as the game went down. It’s the same old story with my girls. They don’t quit, they keep coming,” Schaack said.
Carissa Finck stopped 27 shots. The Jays were flagged for an uncharacteristic five penalties.
“We were a little undisciplined tonight,” Schaack said. “We just made a few too many mistakes.”
The Blue Jays have another tough game Friday night when Bismarck comes to town.
“This is a tough part of our schedule. We have to find a way to find some points here the next three games to hopefully stay in the top four,” Schaack said.
The Blue Jays fell to 8-3 statewide and 10-4 overall. The Bruins are 7-4 and 8-6.
