Blue Jays post season-high

Last week, the Blue Jays finished below Valley City at a meet in Wahpeton.

The roles were reversed Tuesday night as Jamestown High School was on and it led to a season-best score.

Four JHS gymnasts scored over 34 points, topped by Alex Lind’s 36.6, posting a 139.700 to finish comfortably clear of the Hi-Liners at the Blue and White Meet in Valley City.

“Last week, our 3-4-5 kids did not do as well, today they did a lot better,” JHS coach Dave Tews said. “A few tenths here and a few tenths there can make the difference sometimes.”

Lind (36.6) won everything but vault, while sophomore Jayden Diemert posted a career-best of 34.200 to highlight the night.

“Jayden had a really good night,” Tews said.

Lind’s 9.6 on beam was the eye-grabber.

“That was her best beam of the year,” Tews said.

Erin Hillerud’s 34.700 was the second-best total. Jenna Stilwell also cleared 34.

“We had six different kids score for the team,” Tews said. “It was an all around team effort this time.”

The competition ratchets back up Friday at the Julie Zeigler Invite in Bismarck. Only six entrants are allowed per event and all the top teams will be there but Dickinson.

“It should be a pretty competitive meet from the standpoint of who’s going to be there,” Tews said. “It’s one of those where we’ll have to be on our game for sure.”
