Dr. Shou-ching Chao of Valley City State University speaks on “Eyewitnessing modern Chinese culture and change,” 7 p.m., Barnes County Historical Society Museum, 315 Central Ave. N., Valley City. No admission charge. Presentation is part of the Barnes County Historical Society Lecture Series Season 15.

Soup and Substance luncheon featuring speaker P.J. Hardy from Jamestown Area Ambulance, noon to 1 p.m., Jamestown Chamber of Commerce’s lower level, 120 Second St. NE. Admission is free to Young Professionals of Jamestown and $5 for nonmembers.
