The Blue Jays’ score was higher Tuesday, but coach Dave Tews liked Friday’s performance better.

Against most of the top teams in the state, Jamestown finished with a score of 138.55 to place third at the seven-team Julie Ziegler Meet in Bismarck.

Alex Lind’s sparkling 37.475 was good for second overall and keyed a 138.550 team mark.

“We scored 139 Tuesday, but I’ll take this 138 over that 139 no question,” Tews said. “Overall, the girls did a really nice job. This was a step forward for us today.”

Only Bismarck (142.325) and Minot (141.900) finished ahead of the Blue Jays. Dickinson was the only top team not in competition.

“To perform like they did against this level of competition was encouraging,” Tews said. “Sometimes you wonder at this point of the season if you’ve hit the wall, but the thing was we still left some points out there, particularly on bars and beam. So if we can put some things together there, we could still creep up a bit more.”

Lind won on beam (9.375) and bars (9.625) and finished a narrow second to only Bismarck’s Kaylee Keller, 37.550-37.475.

“Alex had it going pretty good,” Tews said. “There were a couple little things here and there, but she looked really good overall.”

Erin Hillerud’s 34.275 earned her a spot in the top 10.

Tews also singled out Kaiann Arellano’s (32.625) night.

“It was nice to have her back. That helped with our depth,” he said.

Five of the six Jays entered scored.

“Even the ones that didn’t score had a good showing. We had an 8.8 on vault we didn’t use. … That’s pretty good,” Tews said.

The Blue Jays have a week before they compete next when they host Grand Forks Jan. 26 at 1 p.m.
