Barnes joins staff of Ave Maria

Tim Burchill, CEO at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown, recently announced that Jan Barnes has been hired as development director for the organization. The newly created position will involve developing a formal long-term fund development and charitable giving program for Ave Maria.

“Prior to the current capital campaign to build the new chapel, very little had been done to generate awareness about the charitable giving opportunities we have here. We want to take what we’ve learned during the past year and build a solid ongoing giving program to meet the future needs of our residents and our organization,” Burchill said. “With Jan’s many years of development experience in the Jamestown area, she is uniquely qualified to get a successful program organized and moving forward.”

Barnes is a native of Jamestown, and a graduate of Valley City State University with a bachelor’s degree in human resources administration and management, and a master’s degree in philanthropy and development from St. Mary’s University, Winona, Minn. She is also a graduate of the Planned Giving Program at the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va.

“I feel very fortunate that I will be able to work for such a great organization as Ave Maria Village, whose team cares so deeply and passionately for our elderly,” Barnes said. “It is not just a facility, it is a very warm and caring environment that I have witnessed through my own family. I look forward to planning and implementing a successful development effort to continually help improve and build an even better ministry for the future.”

For the past 16 years she served as executive director of the Jamestown Regional Medical Center foundation, prior to leaving that position in November. She is married to Brad Barnes and the couple farm in the Courtenay area in northeast Stutsman County.

Ave Maria Village is a not-for-profit, faith-based, long-term care ministry of the Sisters of Mary of the Presentation, Valley City.
