Viking women win

Valley City State notched its 17th win of the season on Sunday, bouncing back to beat Dakota State 71-52 at the Dakota Tip Off Classic at the Civic Center.

Valley City State notched its 17th win of the season on Sunday, bouncing back to beat Dakota State 71-52 at the Dakota Tip Off Classic at the Civic Center.

Brittany Lehner led three Vikings in double figures with 17 points. VCSU, ranked 13th, lost to Mayville State on Saturday.

The Vikings outscored Dakota State (5-12) 38-22 in the second half to pull away.

Kylie Westover led all scorers with 20 points.

Dakota St. 65, Mayville St. 49

Cameron Krump poured in 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Dakota State left Jamestown 1-1 with a 65-49 win over Mayville State.

The Trojans (14-6) came out hot, surging to a 41-19 lead at the break.

Sam Hyman led the Comets (5-15) with 13 points off the bench.

Mayville St. 66, VCSU 59

The Mayville State women pulled an upset in the opening game of the weekend.

Despite boasting a 17-1 record, it was still a minor surprise when they knocked off 13th-ranked Valley City State.

The Comets used a 42-point second half to overcome a 26-23 halftime deficit.

Marcissa McMillan had 16 points and 13 rebounds to pace the Comets.

Katelyn Ralston was the high-scorer in the game with 17 points for the Vikings.

VCSU 64, Mayville St. 50

The 20th-ranked Viking men held the Comets under 30 points in each half to earn a spot in the final game of the weekend.

The Vikings led 31-21 at halftime.

John Raquel, Aaron Duske and Sekani Milligen each had 13 points for VCSU.

The Comets made just 15 of their 51 shots.

JC 97, Dakota St. 72

The Jimmie women came out hot and never really cooled off.

Ranked 17th, Jamestown College splashed in 13 3-pointers on 25 attempts, piling up a whopping 53 points in the game’s opening 20 minutes to lead by 19 at halftime.

The Jimmies were typically balanced. Hannah Steele had 12 points and six assists. Carly Jensen, Morgan Mathison and Megan Pold also had matching 12-point performances.

JC 62, Dakota State 57

The Jimmie men’s first home game in 42 days ended in a nice comeback win.

Down 50-47 with seven minutes to go, the Jimmies outscored the Trojans 15-7 down the stretch to rally.

Davon Thomas carried the load with a game-high 21 points for Jamestown College. Mark Hoge added 14 points and four assists. Breshion Tucker totaled 11 points, six rebounds and three assists. Jared Sutherland added 10.

The Jimmies held Dakota State to just 35 percent shooting (20-for-57).
