Raiders win title game

Led by 5-foot-10 freshman standout Rylee Nudell, the Maple Valley Raiders won the Barnes County Girls Basketball Tournament in Valley City on Saturday.

Led by 5-foot-10 freshman standout Rylee Nudell, the Maple Valley Raiders won the Barnes County Girls Basketball Tournament in Valley City on Saturday.

It took overtime, but the Raiders outlasted the host team — the Valley City Hi-Liners — 46-43 in the championship game, as Nudell led the winning team with 31 points, 14 rebounds and 3 steals.

Valley City’s Clarissa Olson and Jessica Denholm paced Valley City with 17 and 10 points, respectively.

Sargent Central took down Enderling 47-44 in the third-place matchup, while Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page turned away LaMoure-Litchville/Marion 38-37 in the fifth-place pairing.

Barnes County North picked up seventh-place honors, defeating Griggs County Central by the final of 34-31.

Boys Kidder Co. 53, Ellendale 40

A trio of Pirates hit double figures in scoring, helping Kidder County scoot past the Ellendale Cardinals in Steele.

Cole Scherbenske (14 points), Jordan Leier (14) and Ben Steinolfson (12) led the way offensively for the home team. Steinolfson hit a 3-pointer and scored 5 in the first period, helping the Pirates lead 15-8 after one.

Ellendale’s Adam White scored 14, while teammate James Johnston posted 11 to lead the Cardinals.
