The Jamestown High School girls basketball team got back to its winning ways on Tuesday night.

Kyra Dewald led all scorers with 24 points as the Blue Jays downed Bismarck St. Mary’s 55-46 in a West Region contest in Bismarck.

Jamestown had a slow start, trailing 7-2 early. However, the Blue Jays used four 3-pointers from Dewald to regain the lead and build an advantage. Dewald’s last 3-pointer came at the six-minute mark and put the Blue Jays ahead 48-37.

Jamestown had a 25-22 lead at the break and slowly took over from there, using stifling defense to keep the Saints at bay.

McKayla Orr had eight points, while Paige Peterson and Billie Buchanan each added six in the win, which improved Jamestown to 4-1 in the West Region and 6-2 overall. Bismarck St. Mary’s dropped to 1-5 in the region and 1-7 overall.

Jamestown has three of its next four games at home. The stretch starts with Minot at home on Saturday, which is set for 5:45 p.m. Jamestown won at Minot 61-52 on Dec. 20.

Within 10-6 nearly 6 minutes in, Jamestown scored just eight points over the final 11 minutes while the high-powered Saints (7-1) got it going and had it out of reach at the break, 36-14.

Junior Ben Weisbeck poured in 24 points for the Saints, who improved to 5-1 in the West. Scott Nagel added 11.

Austin Remmick’s nine points topped the Blue Jays (2-6, 1-4). Nobody else had more than five.
