Optimist Club honors athletes
Jamestown High School’s Alex Lind, Colt Rasmussen and Triston Shipley, along with Jamestown College’s Taylor Brown and Davon Thomas, have all been selected as the Jamestown Optimist Club’s Athletes of the Week.
Jamestown High School’s Alex Lind, Colt Rasmussen and Triston Shipley, along with Jamestown College’s Taylor Brown and Davon Thomas, have all been selected as the Jamestown Optimist Club’s Athletes of the Week.
Lind, a senior gymnast, won 4 of 5 events at the Valley City meet on Jan. 15. She followed that up by winning the bars (9.625) and beam (9.375), and placing second on the floor (9.45) and the all-around (37.475) at the Julie Ziegler Invite on Jan. 18.
Rasmussen, a sophomore swimmer, qualified in the 100 backstroke and is now qualified in all swimming events for state. He placed second in the 200 and 500 free at the Minot Invite.
Shipley, a junior wrestler, had a strong showing at the Storhaug Invitational in Lison. He went into the 21-team event unseeded and placed fifth, beating the fifth-, eighth- and fourth-seeded wrestlers in the event.
Brown, a sophomore track and field athlete, won the high jump at the Northern Open Indoor on Saturday in Aberdeen, and qualified for the NAIA Indoor National Meet with a career best leap of 5-3 ¾. The Cavalier native also finished second in the 400.
Thomas, a junior basketball player, helped the Jimmies to the championship of the Dakota Tip Off Tournament with wins over two ranked opponents — Dakota State and Valley City. Thomas, of Gaffney, S. C., scored 21 points to go along with 6 rebounds in the Dakota State game, and came back with 18 points and 5 boards in the win over Valley City.
