Strong start for JC women

Amy Fearnside, Tiffany Sluik and Christina Zamora are into the national semifinals at the WCWA meet in Bristol, Tenn.
The three semifinalists topped a big day for the Jimmie women’s wrestling team in Bristol, Tenn. Jamestown College is fourth overall, trailing only host King College, Lindenwood and defending national champion Oklahoma City.
The Jimmies racked up 20 wins on the day.
Fearnside, a freshman from Morgan Hill, Calif., was lights out on day 1, posting back-to-back pins at 109 pounds.
Sluik, a 123-pound senior from Mason City, Iowa, won by fall in her opener then blanked Laura Wilson of Simon Fraser in the second match.
Zamora, a junior from Orange County, Calif., also started with a pin at 155 and closed with a decision in the quarterfinals.
Shai Mason went 2-1 at 136 and is still in contention for All-American honors. Chelsie Fleming, an All-American last season at 191, kept her repeat hopes with two wins in three matches.
Chaelynn Tan went 2-2 at 123.
All 15 Jamestown College wrestlers entered registered at least one win on the day.
Gem Palencia (101), Justine Palabrica (101), Alicia Hubbard (123), Mary Westman (155), Lilia Gudzyuk (170) and Kayla Volin (170) each went 1-1 and remain alive.
Michelle Canete (123), Analy Gonzales (143) and Erie Bragg (191) went 1-2.
The meet concludes today.
