Nelda Oberlander

Nelda Oberlander (nee Mayer), born Nov. 13th, 1928 in Gackle, ND, passed away Tuesday, January 15th, 2013 at her home in Tamarac, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernhardt (Ben) and Christina (nee Zenker) Mayer and five siblings: Elroy, Elma, Erwin, Edwin and William.

Nelda Oberlander (nee Mayer), born Nov. 13th, 1928 in Gackle, ND, passed away Tuesday, January 15th, 2013 at her home in Tamarac, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernhardt (Ben) and Christina (nee Zenker) Mayer and five siblings: Elroy, Elma, Erwin, Edwin and William. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Marvin, 7 children, Larry (Joan), Jerry (Florence), Cynthia (Jon), Vickie, Carolyn (George), Debbie and Kristeen (Bukaza), 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Annetta Podoll. After growing up on the family farm, she married Marvin on Dec. 28th, 1947. When the family moved to Mt. Pleasant, Michigan in 1965, Nelda began her secretarial career and retired from the Mt. Pleasant school district in 1990. She and Marvin moved to Florida in 1999. Nelda was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed counted cross-stitching, gardening, cooking traditional German cuisine and baking. Yet the most important thing in her life was her family, and she always supported her children and husband in all of their activities. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service was held at Faith United Church of Christ in Tamarac on Monday, January 21st, 2013. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made in memory of Nelda Oberlander to one of the following: Dr. Christopher Gomez, University of Chicago, 5841 S. Maryland, Chicago, IL 60637.
