A Moorhead, Minn., man has made progress in raising funds to return the remains and pay for funeral costs of six men that died on Interstate 94 in west Jamestown on Dec. 26.
Randy Kremer set up an account on Jan. 2 with $75. In just more than three weeks he has raised $9,000 for expenses for the victims.
“They still need our help and they’re honored and blessed we thought of them and that things are moving forward,” Kremer said of his conversations with Guillermo Zuniga, the truck driver’s son. “He’s just very thankful.”
Kremer has been in touch with Zuniga since Dec. 28 offering to help in any way possible.
In the weeks that followed, Kremer has seen donations from small towns like Rolla, N.D., and from people in the hometown of the six men, Springfield, Mo.
Kremer doesn’t have a final goal but was hopeful transportation and funeral costs could be covered with donations.
“I’m not doing it for any personal reason,” he said. “I think it’s our duty.”
Donations can be dropped off at any Wells Fargo bank across the country. The fund name is the Jamestown Accident Victims Funeral Fund.
